some people like identifying themselves as something. labels validate people in some way. its not for everyone. try to just sit back and not let it bother you if other people want to label themselves. If they try to label you, just politely tell them that you dont fit into one of their neat little categories!

Some lesbians are very uncomfortable even with that term. They can't idenitify with it.
There's a great website: http://www.butch-femme.com/portal/forums/index.php?
In their forum, there's a question that asks if women identify as "lesbian." Suprisingly many do not.
Some feel put off by that term. Some feel it simply doesn't encompass who they are, some feel it puts a more feminine spin on their sexuality and feel offended by that.
At the end of the day we are all female, but we're not all lesbians, we're not all women, we're not all butch or stud, we're not all sub or Domme, we're ourselves...lables or not.

I am a woman who loves a woman. If I have to use a label it is a lesbian. I can be fem or sporty it depends on how I wake up, I mean bad hair days I wear a baseball cap. If I feel lazy its baggy jeans and a t-shirt for comfort. Its what makes me me

Like straight women have all the same traits? Aren't all straight woman submissive, or dominant, or a combination of the two? In our Lesbian community, knowing something about a prospective date's personal tastes saves a lot of heartbreak.

I think part of this is that people try to figure out who they are sexually. Once they think they've gotten themselves figured out, they apply a label to their lifestyle that fits. People do this with everything else, why not themselves? It's just part of human nature.

its just a way to keep things in a box. i'm jus me what ppl from the outside call me dont matter cuz i'm the one who resides in this body. some might call me "butch" or "stud" but i like to take a slick rick approach and "knock em out the box"

from my point of view it makes no difference whatsoever...a lesbian is a lesbian....maybe to lesbians it makes a difference...sexual preference or something
