I was at work. I worked at Target, and our business DIED that day. A normally $50,000 per day store did just $3,000 in business. We were sending people home left and right, and you could have rolled a bowling ball through our store without hitting a single person.
The day is still so clear to me. I remember driving the 30 minute drive home, and I go by an airport. It was freaky to see all of the runway lights lit red (runway closed), and not to hear a single airplane flying overhead. You never realize how much that is just a part of the sounds of a day until they aren't there. . .

I was enjoying some well needed sleep. I still remember my brother coming over to wake me up and tell me that I should watch the news. I thought it was going to be another overblown story that I couldn't care less about, like the death of Dale Earnhardt, so I just rolled over and went back to sleep. A few mins later my GF made me get up and watch. I suppose I must have been in a minor state of shock for a while because the horror of what happened didn't quite seep in until I heard that people had started jumping....

Well on 09/11/01 I was just getting off from the graveyard shift and about to lie down for a nap when the first plane hit. It was a really sad day.

I was at work in a D.C. suburb - a meeting was about to start when we heard that a plane had hit the WTC. Most of the rest of the morning (until we closed early) was filled with a mix of rumors about what was going on.
