I found out my score for my first test of the semester today and it was only a C. BARELY a C mind you I got a 71%. I studied my brains out. I read the material inside out. I memorized everything the teacher told me to. I came in for extra help everytime I had the chance. But here were like 7 people who got A's and B's and these people are studying to be chemical engineers or whatever. Are these people just smarter than me or wht is going on. Should i just drop out?

If this is a freshman chemistry course, realize that it's also probably a weed-out course. It is designed to make people rethink whether they want to stick with their current major or not. Even though you currently have second thoughts, you don't sound like someone who lacks determination. Coming from a biochemistry major who has worked with professors that teach courses like yours, I can tell you that there is most definitely a curve (even if they tell you otherwise, they only say that to make you think there isn't). So don't be completely discouraged and definitely don't drop out. Now that you've taken the first test, look at what you did wrong and find out why you got it wrong even though you studied hard. That will show you whether or not you should change some of the ways you prepare. Not only that, but each professor has their own style in creating exams. Now that you've taken one, you can start to learn what types of problems to expect on the next test. Chemistry is a science that requires you to think critically. For a lot of people that is something that is hard to learn. So no, it's not easy, but in answer to your question, it isn't impossible.

don't drop out. talk to the teacher and talk to the kids who got A's and B's and ask them to explain it to you. Most of your peers will be willing to help you. Also, checkout the cliffnotes or spark notes for help in Chemistry. Also, if you need help with certain things I'm sure people on here can help you out. You can always email some of us. Also, surf the web for study tips and groups.

Best of luck,

Practice more. I sometimes do things 3-4 times to understand or find out where i could go wrong. It's just like a re-check on what one has learnt.

just because you dont get an A doesnt mean you dont get the material....chem is very hard for lots of people...maybe bio is your science subject or maybe youre really good at english...the point is everyone has their strengths and you are jumping out of your realm and learning something you might not understand in five seconds
