okay, okay. I have the coolest ( and weirdest) theory on this, so just be open minded here. I have decided, they are a type of 'pacifier' for when the mother is away. probably used a long time ago, when there were no pacifiers, and the mother was not around. if you think about it, if a man was to hold a baby there, it would take up its instinct, and suckle. it works the same as a pacifier, it does not lactate (usually), but shuts the kid up. but, it is known for men to lactate, because they DO have mammary glands, that are "dormant" I think quite a while ago, men may have nursed children. and they would begin lactating if need be, say, if the mother died. the stimulation of sucking MIGHT induce the lactating.
or, it would a mans chest would jsut look weird without it. ;)

When we are born women and men have almost the same caracteristics except the external genital caracteristics. In puberty the nipples of women grow because of the ESTROGEN of women becoming BREAST. Men´s nipples dont become breast because there is no estrogen, but if you want sex change, just take pills of estrogen, and the nipples may grow almost becoming breasts.
Men in this aspect maybe more similar than women in this aspect, this is so that men can have Breast cancer which is more fatal than women.

cause in the first few weeks of pregency, the foetus develops as a female until the male genes kick in as produce male parts. the nipples are formed during the growth without the male genes. so, men have nipples.

believe it or not......men can nurse a baby. there are some african tribes, that the men are home nursing the babies, and the women are hunting. check out la leche league .......they can tell ya all about nursing men.
