...in the fall, but I wonder if it's alright to do so when the weather gets colder; will it affect the paint?

A garage door make take a while longer to dry in cooler weather but it can be done.

That depends on what you mean by colder.. IN the fall would be a best time to paint... it is not too hot or certainly not in the freezing zone... Painit, of course, should not be applied when the weather is subject to freezing nor in the HOT temperatures of 9o degrees or above.

most quality exterior latexs today are rated to 35degrees f. along with that they are able to be used with a slight dampness in the air(not impending rain). If the night time temp will not fall below 32 you can go for it. As a professional painter for 26 years we can paint about 47 to 50 weeks a year in the st.Louis area.We get freezing temps and snow but it proves todays paints as capable to brave the temps even if the painters aren't.

The paint will be thicker try placing in with the lid on in a bowl of hot water and don't forget to stir well

the paint will thicken up if it is cold out. if you luck in & have a nice day you can paint in the sun. directions on the can will tell you how many hours it has to be a certain temperature for the paint to set up proper

It could be of a more thick consistency if it is colder. Make sure it is a dry day with no wind.
