Infants are generally given injections in the legs b/c that is where they have the most muscle(from using their legs, crawling and walking). It is not inapropriate for the pediatrician to give an IM injection in a child's buttocks,it is up to the doctor. It is apropriate for mom and maybe the nurse to be present to save the doctor from undue lawsuits from sue happy people.Anything over 1cc HAS to be given in the buttocks or it will cause muscle atrophy(wasting away of the muscle).
I can not stand to have injections in my buttocks, therefore I make them give me one in each arm.

Depending on the medication being administered, it may be necessary for the shot to be given in the buttocks.
There really isn't any reason to worry about it, unless you suspect your pediatrician has some other unacceptable motives for wanting to administer a shot to the buttocks. In that case you ought to consider informing the authorities.

Hi, My mum is a nurse, and she usually gives shots in the buttocks, as she says it is less painful.. and depeding on the thickness of the needle and the syrup inside, it would not hurt as much, Although she does ask people if they feel comfortable with that.. And isn't offended if they preffer it in the arm.
She does not give it in the buttocks to children, instead in the upper arm or thigh, I would query your doctor on why it is given in the buttocks, Especially if it is children, they do not need it in the buttocks, the thigh is appropriate for babies and the upper arm as they get older.
If you don't feel comfortable ( if it is you recieving the shot ) ask for it in your upper arm or leg, Your pediatrician is there to serve you and assist you in your medical needs,

It rather depends on the shot... especially in children, who may not have a lot of muscle development or subcutaneous fat, it's necessary to administer injections into the largest availble muscle mass, to aid adsorption.
It's not just children, they often give adult shots in the butt, too, for the same reason.
I really think you should trust your doctor, and/or find something more realistic to worry about.

They give children shots in the butt because it has the most padding, not because it 'turns them on'. If you have hang-ups about infant nudity, then you are not grown-up enough to be a parent yet.

Yes it is the best way to get it and then they hit it to make it move. Some shots have to be given there or else they dont work

I use to get shots in the bottom for asthma. The bottom absorbs some medicines more quickly than others. Other shots for my asthma was given in my arms as well.
