No she wasn't

Shirley Ardell Mason, was born in Dodge Center, Minnesota, to Walter Mason and Martha Alice Hageman Mason. According to the book Sybil, as a child Mason suffered from extreme abuse at the hands of her mother. While this is impossible to verify, childhood friends have confirmed in interviews that her mother was extremely dominating and controlling

She never married or had children. In 1998, Mason died of breast cancer at the age of 75, and it was not until after her death that she was publicly revealed by psychiatric historian Peter J. Swales as the "Sybil" who had been made famous by the story.

"Sybil Dorsett" became synonomous with multiple personality during the 1970s after the bestselling novel and TV movie about a woman with 16 personalities.

Actually based apon the reports of 11 years of psychoanalysis of a woman named Shirley Ardell Mason. Mason was a long-term patient of Dr.Cornelia Wilbur who supplied author Flora Rheta Schreiber with historical and scientific data for the basis of the "Sybil" character.

Where are they now?

Mason taught Art in New York City and later moved to Kentucky where she taught at University of Kentucky.

She continued her relationship with Dr.Wilbur. Living next-door and maintaining daily contact. Mason never married nor had children. She died in 1988 and maintained her (secret) identity as "Sybil" until the end.

******* I've read Schrieber's book, and there is no mention of "Sybil" ever receiving anything other than hypnotherapy. I don't know of too many people that could receive a frontal lobotomy and still be able to obtain a degree and teach at college-level. I think your work mate owes you a 6 pack.
