Being disowned by your family, fired from your job and thrown out into the street is a few good reasons. But I've only known 50 or 60 people that that's happened too.

Some people are afraid to admit that they are gay because they are afraid how society will treat him or her and maybe they are too afraid of what their family might say to them in other words they feel that they need approval from the whole world but they really don't

A lot of people are afraid of admitting that they are gay because they get treated differently, and also a lot of the time they end up getting the holy crap beat out of them.
I am not one of these people by the way.
I live in Australia and many people are not willing to accept gay people.
Each to their own.

A lot of people lose friends and get disowned from there familys... I personally came out when i was 12 and told everyone that if they had a problem with it then they can go **** themselves... Maybe because im the type of person who doesnt care what others think made the people around me love me for me.... It is very scarey though for some people and i feel for them.

For one thing, NO ONE will ever look at you the same. Even the ones who love and "accept you." To them you are now "gay Derek" or this is my friend Derek who is gay. And you never STOP coming out from then on. As soon as you think its over someone will come over and say, "I hear your queer/gay/a fag, that's okay or yadda yadda yadda" and it never stops. So in some ways your life becomes community property because your like the "town queer" the one everyone knows. You know "so and so's boy, the one who's gay."
You not you anymore, your a word.

My parents are always bad mouthing gays whenever that issue comes up in a subject and I go to a conservative Christian school. I have no idea what they'd think if they found out I was gay. No need for me to come out anyways until I want to get laid.

Because in this day and age when there's proof that homosexuality is a normal birth anomaly Christian Churches and the Catholic Church continue to gay bash and deny the obvious, and laughing as they destroy thousands of lives and cause thousands of suicides.

Sally C,
This isn't why really, but try coming here in the morning. You will find the most offensive persecution on these boards. And repeated often. I guess no one complains.
This part of Yahoo!Answers is definitely the worst for weirdness. Not from the LGBT's, but the ones one attack them.

It's not fun getting beat up in the girls' locker room, or getting spit on in the hallway, or havig someone yell nasty things at you and your girlfriend as you hold hands in a store.
