You should try swimming with clear goggles in an outdoor pool when the sun is rising or setting. It is almost impossible to open you eyes if the sun is facing you, and if you're going to swim outdoors it is better to wear tinted goggles with UV protection.
If you're swimming indoors it doesn't matter but personally I swim with my eyes closed sometimes and it might look weird if I'm wearing clear goggles. (plus colored goggles look nice)
(and you don't want anyone to see you crying if you lose a compedition or something)

Okay this goes back to the beginning of time, well okay, maybe not that far but close enough. In the beginning, you had clear goggles, and god awful orange amber colored goggles that were the styles of choice, but then look at the era we are talking about 60-s and seventies. There were other tint colors but not the range like you see today. The tinted color was to tone down the harshness of the sun at outdoor pools. Keep in mind mirrored goggles only came out in the early 80's (I remember when they were introduced to our local market. They were VERY expensive compared to standard goggles). You started seeing at that time, people using the black "stuff" that football players use under the eyes, yeah you saw that on swimmers, it was pretty funny but that was before zinca came out with neon colors. It was basically anything you could do to cut the glare from the pool. Now days, its a combination of style and sun glare. Unless the package says it blocks rays they are not designed for sun protection, only glare protection. I wear swedes so I tend to buy four packs at a time and mix my goggles up so one eye is blue and the other clear or one green and one red, etc. It was my trademark as a teenager, something to be different. With the exception of red, orange, and yellow tints, the other colors don't really change the color you see in the pool there is a slight change in tint, but nothing so dramatic that it's annoying. When I swim outdoors now, I wear the darkest non-mirrored goggles I can find. why? because I burn easy and adding mirror to reflected sunlight from the water and yeah let's say my nose looks like sebastian the lobster. Anyway, the tints originally did serve a purpose. technology has come around so far that they now are more fashion, but do for the zealous swimmer still serve for much more. If you like clear, stick with clear, but have a pair for outdoor pools that are dark or you will regret it when the sun is dead noon and your on you back looking for the flags.

Well, there are goggles that are clear. The thing is that I think they're colored because it looks more fasionable and pretty. They may attract cute boys also. But, I go with you, I like clear becuase it makes you see things better and more realistic colored, like if my friend was wearing a blue swimsuit, with colored goggles, it may become a yellow swimsuit insted. Right now I have clear goggles that have a black outline.
Some people just don't like other people seeing their eyes when they're swimming or just don't want to be bothered.

Sometimes, the tint or color that you see is a protection that the makers include to protect your eyes from the sun (if you swim outdoors that is). If not, it still makes you look like a real tough and good swimmer when you wear them as people can't see your eyes!

just style. they look cooler. but goggles are tinted because when swimmers do backstroke the sun can make it so we cannot see anything at all and so its had for us to swim or just when its really sunny.

they do come in clear lenses but i think it just has to do with style. some people like it better when you cant see their eyes while theyre swimming because it sometimes does look weird when your eyes are bugging through the googles. but glasses can't be colored especially one's for kids/teens because school systems require glasses to be clear to catch sleeping kids.. thats why they dont let you wear sunglasses to school.
