Some of my friends feed sea lions from the dock, it this legal, dangerous, or okay?

it is generally never ok to feed animals, unless you are going to adopt them and make them part of your family, or if your life depends on it

Sea Lions are a federally protected animal, so you could be skirting a legal infraction depending on what you are feeding them. If it is something similar to their natural diet, no problem from the law, but animals can become dependent on "hand out" and sea lions can become aggressive with males reaching 1000-1500 lbs. That is a lot of sea mammal to make angry or annoyed if he thinks he hasn't been fed enough by you. They can go from in the water to on the dock in seconds. Just remember, Steve Irwin wa a trained zoologist and was caught by surprise by a relatively harmless creature....

NO! It's NOT OK. Sea lions and seals are wild creatures, not pets, that should not develop dependence on human beings. Pier 39 in San Francisco has BIG problems because of us and their is danger from wild animals biting US instead of the FOOD!

I think it's better for them to not get into the habit of mooching off people. Same thing with feeding bears and other wild animals. Too bad because it's fun.

if they r not trained they might be dangerous but i dont know about iligal
