yes it makes it so much more painful. you can do squats and sit that way for a bit it puts pressure on the cervix from the weight of the baby and helps to dialate you. keep walking though! good luck and congrats

Your mom is right. Pitocin can be very painful. Generally women do not start with the pitocin however. Generally they start with a gel insertion of artificial prostaglandin. This rapidly ripens your cervix and gets your body ready to have a baby. Most women respond to the second or third gel.
There are natural methods that are safe and others that need to be used with caution.
Aside from sex and walking you can use nipple stimulation. Nipple stimulation is rolling the ball of the nipple between your fingers for about an hour several times a day, making sure to take breaks between. You can get some really strong contractions from this but unless your body is ready it won't continue.
Real Red Raspberry Tea is a natural uterine toner and also helps to reduce postpartum bleeding.
There is also a natural tincture that can be obtained from midwives or natural practitioners. It usually involves a concoction of lemon verbena, almond butter, castor oil and apricot nectar.
In the end, I really feel you just need to let your body be.
Babies don't tend to rip moms up. What happens is mismanagement of women in labour and the result being a tear. This happens with babies big or small. My first labour resulted in a terrible tear due to mismanagement. My second baby was much bigger and I did the things described below without any tearing.
If you are worried about a tear, then use warm compresses applied to the perineum later in labour, stay off of your back and push on hands and knees. Avoid purple pushing (counting to 10 with each breath). Instead direct your own pushing with smaller counts and lots of panting at the end as baby begins to crown.

I was induced with my second and it was much more painful than the natural contractions I had with my first. It only hurt until I got the epidural though, then it was a breeze, so if you do end up having the be induced keep that in mind. This method is really gross, and it obviously didn't work for me, but grandma swears by it...take a tablespoon of olive oil. Tastes nasty but it's supposed to work. Thing is it can only work if the baby is ready to come out. And if you think the baby may be to big to come out naturally you may not want to do anything that will encourage the contractions faster than you can get to the hospital. you may need a c-section and you would have caused all that pain for nothing...

This could be completely wrong, but I have read that eating salad with a balsamic vinagrette dressing can bring on labor. Call me crazy but I think I remember reading about a restaurant in L.A. that served a special salad with a tart, tangy vinegar dressing especially for inducing labor.
Other than that, move as much as you can. I had pitocin and it made labor come on sudden. Not a gradual increase in contractions. Don't want to scare you, just be prepared if that is the route that you go.

Pitocin will make it worse because it brings on the contractions harder and faster. But there are other ways of inducing, like stripping the membranes, which doesn't always do anything, but can get things started. And there's also breaking your water. I consider the last two more natural because there's no medication involved. It's just kinda jumpstarting the whole thing.
But without the meddling of doctors, your doing all that you can. I've heard that nipple stimulation sometimes helps.
Hang in there! Good luck and congrats on your new baby!!

There two meridian points that you can try working on. Median points are the points stimulated in Acupressure/Acupuncture. The space in between your thumb and forefinger, its called Hegu. The other is the area around the ankle bones. If you gently massage in those areas it may help induce and create shorter labor. One of my massage therapy teachers said he told several pregnant clients to rub those areas several times a day and ALL of them had very easy and short labors. This is believed to powerful areas, so in the first trimester it is recommended that those above mentioned areas never be touched because of the slight risk of miscarriage. In your stage of pregnancy it would be fine.

it does. I was induced twice. Ive had friends who went natural and then had to be induced and they said that inducement was more painful.
I don't want to scare you or anything but just be prepared to take deep breaths.
Before my first child, my husband everynight during the last 2 months would stretch my skin ( below ) the opening to kind of make it elasticity like. sounds gross BUT I only tore a half inch with my son and two stitches and he was almost 9 pounds , all head
with my daughter who was born 16 months later, I didnt tear at all. I went 2 weeks overdue with my son and my daughter was born on her due date, I demanded that I didnt want to go 2 weeks over again,!
That baby is gonna come when he wants to or wait to be induced, good luck!

I don't know the answer to your question but, keep looking for the answer. I was induced, and it hurt a lot. I went from no pain to OMG. 38 hours after I was induced I went for a C-section. I sure hope things go better for you.

drive over really rough terraine, but inducing is no big deal. it's not bad at all, i was induced and it went like a charm. my body was ready for labor but it just needed to be pushed into it a bit and then it just took right off and my son was born. it was cool.

Be sure the doctor hears your concerns. Ask about the inducing meds, will they hurt versus keeping the baby in labor too long.
