The range of tie varies greatly. For example, when I worked for a temporary staffing company, they called the local police department in Suffolk County, Virginia and asked for any and all information on me. I had a few speeding tickets and that was it. Then, they asked me....did you live anywhere else? I said, yes...Aurora country, Colorado. They then called Aurora and asked the same thing. Again....I had a few traffic tickets. This company wanted to know WHERE I had lived and then called the counties. It took less than 30 minutes. However, for a serious background check (like Law Enforcement), they check into EVERYTHING - could take weeks.

It depends on how thorough and who is doing the background check. If they're going through something like Intellius.com, the employer could have a background check extremely quickly (like within a day or two). If the employer is really digging deep, it might take several weeks. If the job is a high security clearance, usually acquaintances, friends, family, former employers will be interviewed, which takes forever.

Depends on how thorough the search is, for what time period, how specific you are in the information you give (did you give only the names of previous companies or did you give a specific address and telephone number), what area the search includes (have you always lived locally or have you lived in multiple states),and how much stuff is on your record. Anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks.

A lot depends on where, or how many places you lived, and they are a the mercy of the police where the forms were sent to.
So 3 days to 3 weeks

If they have an account online, they can do one instantly.

I work for a law enforcement agency and had to have a background check done. You want to fill out your paperwork quickly and then the investigator can do their job. It took about 3 mos. total for mine to be done, this was including a polygraph.
