Well done, that took some willpower! However, you might fall into the trap of 'oh, I need another one, just today because it's been a hell of a day!' and you might slowly creep back up to 40 a day again. I knew a guy who only allowed himself to smoke 3 ciggs a day but in actual fact he only smoke the 1, and that way if he had one of those really hard days then he could smoke just another one (and maybe, but only maybe a third one). If you want to quit completely then you are not far from it already but at the same time if you just smoke 1-2 a day then I don't think you do more damage to yourself than walking down one of those inner city major roads in rush hour. I've got an idea as to what you can do: buy one of those OGO oxygen flasks and you can inhale a big birst of pure oxygen anytime you want. You can still get the action of taking some gas deep down your lungs (similar action to smoking) but actually it is a very healthy habit.

I think that's an amazing start. For everyone giving up is different and each person has to find their own way of doing it. For me, it was a matter of each day waking up and saying 'For today, Im not going to smoke'. I tried many times before to quit totally and each time seemed to make it into a state of panic after a few days at the idea of never smoking. The one day at a time thing made a big difference, because if on a certain day, I failed and had a ***, I had only failed on that day and not totally and the next day I started again with the 'today I am not going to smoke' - I had about 15 'failed' days over the course of 3-4 months and after that, the next two years were smoke free!

good for you!!!
i gave up new year, now i cant stand the smell of smoke or to see people smoking, i wonder how or why i ever did it.
anyhow....thats brill, 3 a day is nothing compared to 40. but dont go it alone, seek the advice of your doctor, they will check your general well being and advise you on your next step. plus it cant be easy thwarting off all those cravings. my dad tryed to give up after about 25 years of smoking, he couldnt sleep and when he did he either had nightmares or woke up in a cold sweet craving a ***.
so...you have done so well already, so do even better by letting your doc and friends and family help you quit altogether!
you will be amazed by how well and different (obviously for the better) you will feel in a few months if you have given up for good. not everyone has the will power you have. congratulations!

That is fantastic. Well Done.
Now just go that step further. And stop all together.
I made that mistake a few years ago. I was on 20 a day and got down to 2 a day (mostly out habit like to and from work) but I never gave them up completely and now I am up to 20-30 a day.
But you should feel very happy and proud for what you have so far acheived. Now comes the hardest test of all......Stay Strong!!

Well done! It takes huge willpower to quit. I was on 60 a day before I went "cold turkey". Horrendous! I'm proud to say I've lasted 9 years without so far. I hope you manage to cut out the final three because you've done the hardest part which is deciding you WANT to stop. Good luck!

Well done you, but I guess you already know deep down that the only amount which is ok is none, and also the problem is that if you continue to smoke, the temptation to increase the amount is always going to be present.
By reducing so drastically you have already proven to yourself that you can do it. You have everything to gain so the very best of luck to you. Don't hestitate to see your doctor or a smokers helpline if you need further support or advice.

Three is better than 40 but as an X smoker for 25 years and a two pack a day habit I can tell you it won't work.
Cold turkey is the only way. Good Luck

That's way better. I've cut down from 25-30 to like 15 a day. Baby steps.

Good for you!!! That is real good. I know how hard it can be to quit. I used to leave mine in the car, so every time I wanted one I'd have to go out and get one. Not smoke in the house, had to go out. I just made it harder for myself. Nicoderm patches would help you a lot. they help with the craving, and you have got the will power. You Go!

It may be better than forty cigarettes a day, but you have to cut the three cigarettes a day habit. You are still damaging your health and in all probability go back to where you were, 40 a day.
