If there's anything good that came out of it, it's that it showed us how we can be at our best in helping each other. It's a pity that it takes an event like this, or a natural disaster, or anything else equally massive, to prompt us to do that on a scale like that when we could be doing it all the time.
Yes, we have charities and that sort of thing, but those are peanuts compared to the kind of support people gave each other that day. People in New York on 9/11 came from all walks of life. It didn't matter if they were white, black, red, brown, yellow or even lilac with purple polka dots--if they needed help, people were there to give it to them, and it didn't even matter if they knew them personally or not.
Simply put, it's the old "united we stand, divided we fall" argument. The more united we are, the stronger we stand. Who says it can't be done in a city of ten million people? And that's what 9/11 showed us...that it *can* be done.

I think it is a fair question to ask of all events no matter how horrible whether they be manmade or natural. I don't think family members of the 3,000 dead would find this question in good taste however.
Personally, I don't have an answer. I think it is too soon. The pain is still real as evident from tears I again shed today, five years later. (I live in Manhattan.)
While it might be a stretch, maybe there *could* be some good of this event should each and every one of us voters pay closer attention to our government and be more involved in what these elected officials do day-to-day. They are human too, they make mistakes, but they can also make the right decisions and lead the world in becoming a better place.
We must be part of this process though, or god-forbid we may face another event like 9.11.

We were given a very strong taste of how evil man can be.
We also experienced how giving man can be when his brother is in trouble.
I feel very sad that this happened in America....a country where for the most part we always felt pretty secure and safe. We were truly blessed to be able to come and go pretty much and wherever we pleased...with little worry.
We had a dose of what other countries have often endured.
I think some people were definitely humbled to our knees. Many of us took the gift of their freedom and this country for granted....and those who protect us.
I think many people respect in a better way those that put their life on the line to help others.
It also hurt that some group hates us so much...that can humble you in to thinking what part did we play to anger others?
A terrible terrible tragedy which has had, and still does, a very high price tag. Hopefully, the ones remaining can learn and grow from this event.
God, please bless America. Please protect us. Help us not to take this wonderful country, with its bumps and bruises, for granted....to strive to do our part to bring goodness and respect toward others.

So what we were humbled and then we turned right around and laid their worst fears to rest we went to get the SOB"s behind this outrageous attack and guess what they are all running for their lives or hiding out in caves afraid to show their faces out in plain view of the public. Yes we were humbled by the sight of total destruction and madness but in the end we stood up picked up our weapons and took the fight to them who deserve everything our great nation has to offer them! Come get ya some of that buddy! U.S.A. All The Way!!!!!!!

Saying that Americans were humbled by the attacks is a true statement but to say it is a good outcome is rather cruel.
The unity that we share, and the strength we show are a positve outcome.

I'd say the patriotism, but it shouldn't take a huge disaster such as 9/11 to unite the people of this country. Too bad we can't all get along.

It has made us more aware of the evil in the world. It has made us a little more aware of what goes on around us. It has made me realize that I had a false sense of security living in the U. S., and that police, firemen & other rescue workers are all saints for putting their lives in danger and even giving their lives to save strangers. And it made me really admire Rudy Guilanni. Though visibly shaken & confused about what was happening to his city & it's people he was sucessfully tried to be a rock. He acted with dignity & grace.

I say several things, faith in mankind and God has gone way up. Also, many people died doing their jobs so others may live. Americans are also more alert instead of the attitude that "Nothing can harm us". I think it made us realize that we are not above anyone or anything.
