I have seen this young woman on the streets, for some time now. As an individual, what, if anything, should we do? I live in a small city, and this is not a common thing.

You could volunteer at your local soup kitchen or donate to the Salvation Army. Even the little things stand for something.

Ultimately, it will be up to her wether or not she wants help, and most homeless people have become leery, or do not want, help from complete strangers, although with you living in a small town that may be different. Try asking around about her i.e. the church, people in the neighborhoods where you've seen her before, at the soup kitchens, places like that. Find out what you can, and use that, along with the resources you are willing to invest, as a guide to what kind of assistance you can provide.

Try and find out where the nearest shelter is and take her there. I don't think it's really any ones responsibility to do anything for a homeless person. It's sad I know, but that person has to want to help themselves get a better life. You can invite her to go eat one day that you have the time and money. It doesn't have to be an expensive restaurant. If you do this, go with information of where she can go to for help and give it to her or you may want to take her there yourself. I don't suggest giving her the money 'cause she may not use wisely.

I feel that we do not have any responsibility towards the homeless. Though there are exceptions. Children do need help but 16 and older can get a job and find shelters. There is no reason now adays to be homeless.

this is a hard question, but a good one. i'm not sure that we have a responsibility on an individual basis, but there are many things a person can do if they feel the need to do something. volunteering or donating are the things that come to mind first.

Unfortunetely SOME people are homeless because they choose to be.....most have families and due to stubborness/ignorance/pride they will not turn to them for assistance. for those that choose to be homeless i do not believe them to be anyones responsibility other their own.
On the other hand those that are homeless due to geniune hardship i feel for them....you cant solve their problems but you might make their day simply by acknowledging them. A good morning or a cup of coffee, biscuit, sandwich etc etc.....i would never suggest giving money as if they have a habit to feed it will be spent on that....

Why would there be any responsibilities? We should do nothing. There are plenty of homeless shelters for them. Id tell her to get a job.
