One that is not a debt collector, that is the establishment that gave you the loan. They probably are not schooled in what, who, and how they can ask questions. No they are not supposed to discuss your account information with anyone other than the one on the account. I doubt that what they asked her will be enough to bring up any charges, she was there making a payment they can claim ignorance of who she was and they assumed she had account information.

They may not be able to--but obviously they did. The best answer to that kind of question is "I dont' know. You will have to ask her." Sounds like someone is just trying to kill two birds with one stone. Maybe the reason was because you both have the same last name and both popped up on their computer? Regardless, sounds uncool to me. You may have to do some reserach about debt collection laws in your state. Usually, unless they are harassing you, an innocent inquiry like that probably won't get the loan company in trouble. Good luck!

Since your gf came in, they had no way of knowing if she wasn't your sister. It was just a general question, no amounts was given, so I don't think it should be a problem.
