I had turned on the t.v. and they interrupted my show when the first plane hit. As I was watching in disbelief, I saw the second plane hit...LIVE. That is an image that will never leave my mind.

I took the day off work to clean house because my sister, her husband and her new baby were flying from California to Maryland to visit us. I had the TV on for some background noise while I was working. I saw one of the World Trade Center towers with smoke coming from it and I thought, "Why are they showing footage of the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center?" And I turned the channel.
Then I realized that they wouldn't be showing old footage, so I switched back. That's when I found out that a plane had hit the tower. While newscasters were speculating over this, the second plane swooped in and hit the other tower. I saw that live as it happened. I immediately realized it was terrorism. Then the Pentagon was hit. I thought, "Oh my God, this is the first day of World War III."
I called my mother in California, forgetting that it wasn't yet 6 a.m. there. "Mom, what time do Jane and Paul catch their plane this morning? Are they already in the air?" I must've sounded really freaked out because my mother asked what was wrong. I told her to turn on the news.
I went back to the TV. Supposedly there were two more planes unaccounted for. Both were said to be heading for Washington, D.C. Fighter jets were being scrambled to shoot them out of the sky if necessary. Where was my sister?
Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania and it turned out there wasn't a second plane headed for D.C. Then the second tower hit was the first to collapse. I absolutely couldn't believe it. I had been to the top of the World Trade Center once when my father still worked in building number five of the WTC complex. How could something that size just ... be gone. Then the other tower went.
I knew that many thousands of people worked in each of the towers. How many had died? How many in The Pentagon? How many on the airplanes? Did my father know any of the people in the towers? And where was my sister?
The phone rang and I answered. It was my sister. They had been on their plane, next in line for take-off, when all airports were ordered closed. They were on their way back home and they were safe. Oh, thank God!
That day had dawned bright and beautiful, the first day of a family vacation. I was going to be spending it in joyous family reunion. But I couldn't be sorry about my lost vacation. At least all of my family were still among the living.

I was taking my driving test and it came over the radio that a plane had hit one of the world trade center towers I thought it was some kind of a hoax. But I was still shaken because they sounded so serious. I failed my test. And when I got home the first thing I did was turn on the t.v. to see what was happening and when I seen it was true and that both towers had been hit, i was glued to the t.v. and heartbroken for all of those people who lost their lives. My heart goes out to their families.

I just asked this question.
I was getting up for a 800am physics class. I heard the news and missed classes all day. I was at a loss for words, met up with family and stuck to the TV all day.
Cried my heart out, didn't say a word, I couldn't speak...

I am on the West Coast - I was getting ready for work - just got out of the shower, and, like you, absolutely could not believe what I was seeing on the TV was really happening. It will stay with me forever!
