I know ppl have their reasons for not liking slang (aka ebonics). but the ppl who use it have just as good reason-they cant help it! ppl grow up where it is spoken and they will speak the same way. i know that some of you say that is why you go to skool, to learn how to speak proper english. but havent you heard of the saying "you can take them out of the ghetto, but you cant take the ghetto out of them"? it's true. ppl who used to use slang can speak as proper as they want, but if it's still in them that they feel more comfortable using slang, then let them be comfortable.
i mean, i know proper english makes you SOUND more intelligent, but does that make you more intelligent? no! ppl using slang can be just as smart as ppl speaking proper english. I personally think that using your own way of speaking is good-isnt change good? slang is having no kind of seriously negative effect on the world so leave the ppl alone who like to use slang.
no rude comments please, thank you.

other countries have slang too. here in Texas...some Hispanics speak what they call tex-mex. it's Spanish...with an Americanized twist.

i don't have a problem w/ Ebonics slang (hell imma southern girl!) as long as i can follow along with it. i mean, sure speak it all you want w/ others that understand but don't get all up in my face about it when i ask.."uh, say what?" i ain't trying to be rude or whatever...i just don't understand.
speaking "proper" English (which us Americans don't do anyways..) is just a way to be polite and a way to speak so that everyone can understand your meaning.
besides you can still speak clearly without having to sound like a pompous @ss.

Slang is language at it's most informal, using expressions that many would consider to be grammatically incorrect and sometimes rude. Slang is often used within small social groups where it can help draw and keep the group together. Slang changes very rapidly in the English language.

If ppl don't like the way I talk...then they can find other company elsewhere.
I live in Texas, and on top of using slang, we have a distinct southern drawl to go along with it.
There are slangs in every language! And the only way that anyone can speak 'proper' English is if they were born in England of a royal family. And in that case...it prolly still wouldn't be right!...lol

i totally disagree slang is slang not a dialect and proper English is what the rest of the US speaks. on tv, in business, and socially proper English is a sign of education. speaking properly is the only way to fight your way out of the ghetto into a better paying job, nicer neighborhoods etc. of course if you prefer to stay in the ghetto thats ok but don't make excuses for it - i hope i was not too rude, thanks for reading

"Slang" and "Ebonics" are not the same thing. "Slang" is not a dialect of English. Slang can exist in any language.

This slang word is produced from 2 products. It'spredominantely heard in Lebanon/Syria or the "El-Sham" section. "shoo fi" stands for "what's there?" and "ma fi" ability "there is not something", so in case you positioned them mutually, it comes on the threshold of "what's up" as you assert...
