If you HAD to, then I'd reccomend slowly opening the door, perching both feet on the edge, trying to aim for the softest area possible, then executing a low, horizontal leap at a 90 degree angle from the car's heading (away from traffic), trying to land on both feet for just a mlisecond (with knees beeply bent), then tucking into a fetal positon (knees tucked into chest, arms wrapped tightly around, head tucked in) and continue rolling sideways in that direction. This will best protect your joints and vital areas (except the kidneys).
But it's still risky. While this method is probably the most likely effective (I'm not a pro, this is just what I would do), I'd still expect to get hurt.
There are some situations however, when bailing out may be the only alternative (icy mountain road, brakes are out and the car is headed for a sheer cliff).
Good luck out there.

Tuck and roll, but of course only if staying in the car is more dangerous than getting out of a moving car (ie kidnapping, etc)

ive seen this on a night show here in the philippines...
of course you have to open the door... Don't turn off the engine or you'll lose control of the steering wheel... jump out of the car with your back first... upon hitting the ground try to stand... do a barrel roll while trying to stop your rolling speed...
Remember to do this only when you have no other options left...

Jump out legs first, afterall they're the strongest limbs. Hit the tarmac with both feet, then use the momentum to roll over, making sure you keep any extremities tucked in tight.

Pull on the emergency brakes to slow down the car - then jump out and roll out of the car.

first i think it's insane but then again in an emergency I would say open the door and push yourself out try and roll side ways making sure you don't get runned over. thats about it. i hope you never have to do it.

Watch reruns of the old "Starsky & Hutch" television shows for some good pointers.
