My husband is about to have his third surgery for kidney stones. At his last surgery they removed 5 stones. He has been sober for 10 years, but previosly drank very heavily for 17 years.... could this be part of the problem?

I've heard that giving up Cokes and teas can help. If you have high mineral content in the water where you live, that could be contributing. Have him try to drink a lot of filtered water every day (a gallon a day at least).

The person that said oxalate is right. It's a crystallization of vaious substances, and is very painful to excrete. By the way, the number one kidney stone causing beverage is Dr. Pepper, because it has the highest oxalic acid content.

Kidney stones are caused by mineral build up from spinach. What you can do to prevent them is not eat spinach.

Have they figured out what the stones are made of? If it is oxalate or protein, then diet can control it for sure. The others it depends.

yes, I heard drinking alot of coke does this too
