It's kinda like a mini rainbow you can see to either side of the Sun sometimes, when the clouds are just right. Here's a real explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog

It is like squinting at the sun, and getting a few extra one's..
Sundogs appear in pairs at exactly 90 degrees to the sun in certain conditions....
They are effectively a trick of the light, or a clown or something

A very large, semi-sentient creature, capable of giving a small space craft a lift for inter-stellar travel.
See early Terry Pratchett book "Dark Side of the Sun".
Or a "parhelion" - optical effect in the sky.

It's one of the less successful Australian punk rock bands of the eighties. They used to open for Men At Work and Men Without Hats. I was at the Cleveland, Ohio, show in May of 1983 when their lead singer, Kid Viscous, tore a picture of Ronald Reagan in half on live American TV. That was the beginning of the end for them.
Their career soon went into a downward spiral of hard drugs, suicide, and incurable insanity, which is exactly what punk bands aspire towards. So, in that token, they finally hit the bigtime.
That's when they started opening for my band, Rancid Puke. We once did a tour with Dred Zeppelin. Spiffy. Neato-Keeno.

Kris does a great job with her answers here. I am only going to add a picture of one. You see them a lot in the summer at the South Pole.
