The DSL companies do not really tell you this but the farther you are from the central office, the worse the performance of the DSL line. Lately, in response to cable ISP taking a major market share, they have been selling services that extend beyond where the service becomes questionable because of the cable length. This issue could also be on the list with 1, 3, and 4 above.

If you really want to pursuit an answer, you can do the following.

First off, what is the speed you are getting vs the plan you subscribed. Are you paying premium for just butt slow speed ? Are you off as much as 40 to 50% of your plan ?

Contact your DSL provider and ask for why. They should be able to tell you how far you are from the CO. And they could tell you what is the expected speed you should be getting. If you are not close to what it is, then you can ask for troubleshooting with your dsl provider or your telephone carrier company.

They have tools to find out what is the problem outside your house.

If the problem is not outside your house, you can then start troubleshoot problem inside your house.

I had an old computer and originally had dial up which was slow. I then got DSL a couple of years ago. It was much faster than the Dial up, but as I got more things onto my computer, it would get slower and slower. I finally bought another computer and it is fast again. I had too much stuff on my old computer and I could not add anymore memory into it.

One way you can speed your computer is reboot it, by updating or checking for a virus. Another way is go to start click on it, go to time and date click it change the time and date. Change it to a week or two ago. In about a month you can correct it. This sometimes speeds it up.

most likely no.4 or no.1
no.3 - I don't see what this has to do with it, make sure you have line filters connected to each phone that is in the house and you should be fine.
no.3 - maybe, what are your PC specs.

other: maybe you have bad phone lines in your area, or are further away from the telephone exchange, phone able is too long??
