If you get a good, relaible doctor, it should be about the same as going to any other doctor, not always great but necessary.
You will be asked about the first day of your last menstrual period, whether or not you are sexually active and if so, if you are using birth control.
Your blood pressure will be measured and you will be asked to provide a urine sample.
You should speak up about any problems you may be having with the period, vaginal discharge, pelvic pain or if you think you may be pregnant.
It's a little embarrassing at first, but the gynecologist has seen everything and to him or her, it's just a job. He or she could care less about your body -they have seen everything. Good luck.

it doesn't matter if you are a virgin or not you still should get checked. ask your doctor about when you should have a gyn exam. it really isn't to bad. the trick is to try and relax. if you tense your muscles it will be uncomfortable. i know its easy to say but put your mind on something else. i usually just talk to the nurse while the doctor is examining me and it is over before i know it. it really is not anything to be afraid of but many women get nervous about it.

After a while it's nothing. Just making sure there's nothing wrong with the plumbing. I will say I've never enjoyed it, and my doc is kinda sexy. I thonk your friend may have told herself that to ease her nerves, especially if it was her first time. She was nervous and scared, don't let her tell you she wasn't.
When you do go, listen to the nurse, and make sure you open wide and relax. The nurse will hold your hand if you ask her to.

Going to the gynecologist is not that bad. It all depends on what kind of doctor you have. My gynecologist and I have a good patient to doctor relationship. I can talk to him about any problems that I am having and I can ask any thing that may concern me about my body. The best advice I can give you is make sure you have a doctor that you feel comfortable with and one that you can talk to.

all women should go and a lot has to do with attitude. talk to your doctor let him or her know how you feel and even though it may be embarrassing ask questions they know the right answers. remember doctors are people so their personalities are important. if you can go see your friends doctor sounds like she has a better personality than your sister's doctor

The friend that said it was the greatest thing is a bit strange. It's a lot of things but great is not one of them.
It's a procedure that puts you in a very vulnerable position...like having your teeth cleaned......necessary, sometimes uncomfortable, but never fun.

i wouldn't say it "felt great" but you should go and get checked out. its not that bad. the doctors and nurses will be very cool, let them know its your first time. and just relax and take deep breaths. you'll do fine. don't forget to ask to have the HPV test. you need to ask for it, they won't just automatically do it. its a test that has to do with cervical cancer.

I won't share the first thought that popped in my head.
It's like nothing you've ever experienced before unless you like having a shovel inserted..... ooooops...I said I wouldn't share that!
No matter what it's like, it's very necessary and required after a certain age. Do it for that reason. A gazillion of us have survived the visits!
