I had an anal fissure less than a week ago. I've been applying preparation H and giving my self some sitz baths. Trying to watch the diet and make it high fiber. Some slight improvement, but not much. It has not helped that I just found out I had lyme disease too! Anyway, how many weeks do I have to bathe myself and apply preparation h before I get healed up? Thank you!

Unfortunately, they don't always heal. My husband had one when he was in college. It turned into a rectal hernia and his doctor said that not repairing an anal fissure or rectal hernia is the leading cause of colon/rectal cancer. I suggest you go see a doctor, just to be sure.

Gee, that's one thing we had in common.

Mine was, uh, opened up by an expert, my too personal penis doctor. Lanced, I believe they call it. Squeezed the damn thing and stuck a few pieces of wrapped cotton inside. Gosh, don't WE feel good now! NOT!!! They lance it, let it drain and heal with antibiotics, oral and external. Sitz baths several times a day in really hot water so it can cleanse.

High fiber is always good perhaps with a softener now. Have you seen a doc? It might heal faster with pro advice. Everything you read here is amateur, right?

This one is one for the pros........I mean this is an open wound of sorts, and it could lead to other problems. Fiber is good it promotes bowel movements however, you'll need something to soften said movements so you aren't re-opening it.
