Federer is so good for a several reasons
1. Consistent service toss that makes the opponent hard to read what he is going to serve. They all look the same. His service game is also a mix with power and spins, similar to Sampras and Edberg.
2. Forehand cross court, open out, or passing shot can be spinned or flattened. The strength on those ground strokes are tough to return themselves, let along how well he locates those shots. Federer also showed that where exactly he placed the shots. His only challenged the calls when he was 99% sure it was in during US open.
3. Single handed backhand has an amazing control. Plus the short swing can really really opponents ground strokes quickly without wasting time swinging. The control he has for the back hand is amazing. He can place back hand cross court or passing shots anywhere he wants.
4. Volley is another strength of Federer where he can place it across, long, or short.
5. Federer's drop shots, back hand slices, and over head smashes are also the best.
6. He has a great timing, balace, and reads on opponents' serves. That was why he out-aced Roddick 17-7 during US open Final.
7. Attitude is another key element. He usually hides his frustration until he met safin. His coolness is what piss off the opponents the most. It just seems like Federer already know that he can't be beaten on the court. He also has an ability to take it to another level (except for on Clay, where the next class is owned by Nadal) when his winning way is threatened.
So who can post threat to Federer?
On Clay - Nadal. The hard backhand spin or powershots really frustrates Federer. Plus being a left hander really gave Nadal a very good chance to work Federer's weaker back hand.
On Grass - No one...
On HardCourt - Safin when healthy. Safin was the one who took a revenge on Federer during 2005 Aussie open (where he was embarrassed a year before). When Safin is in the top form, he is also unbeatable (except for himself). Safin was also the guy who ended 26 straight wins over top 10 players of the world. For a few weeks there, Safin also gave hopes to other players, because he showed that Federer was not invincible on hardcourt.

There a millions of reasons why he is so good, in fact the BEST.
Talent, technique, character, fitness etc. He was born to do this!!
He is many levels above the rest of the tennis players and he has worked and still working very hard. Maybe in the future Safin or most probably Nadal, who has become a (small) challenge to him(at Roland Garos) achieves to become such a great player like Roger

he's a robot. Thats the only thing i can come up with
or he was a goverment weapon that escaped and enjoyed tennis
He's not human. He's too damn good
I dont see any close competition for a while.
i guess everyone is going to have to just wait till he gets old maybe some young guy can beat him in about 4 or 5 years
IF he grows old (i swear he's a robot)

Federer is so good because apart from his amazing forehand and location on all of his shots is his agility and quickness it is almost impossible to get him out of position to return much less put it past him. There is so much that people do not see in tennis and footwork is a huge part of it with out good footwork and quickness federer would be nothing. Plus he has alot of confidence.

roger federer is really good...... rafael nadal's the only one who could beat him..... everytime nadal loses to someone and doesn't meet federer in the finals, he always says that federer's gonna be unbeatable..... rafael nadal's the only one who could beat him..... not only in clay... i think... but almost everyone's waiting for them to meet up again...
