If you hope to be a technical writer, composing and editing medical documents, you should seek a degree in technical writing. Many universities now offer "technical writing" as a major within their English departments. It would be wise to also take a number of science courses (chemistry, biology, etc.).

Some of the best programs:
Carnegie Mellon
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Michigan State
Miami University (Ohio)
Drexel U
University of Washington
University of Delaware

There are many more -- these are just a few very good programs that come to mind.
