Well, you gotta realize, that win was at the twilight of his career anyway....even a 40 year old geezer can manage to put together 3 good quarters of football if the other defense didn't gameplan for him because he was the backup.

Not that I'm knocking Doug Williams, but it's not like he was the starter all year long. He was a brilliant QB in his day, though. He gave Tampa Bay their first hint of respectability, but the best play I ever saw him run wasn't even in the NFL.

In the 3 or 4 years of the USFL, because it was a summer league, some backups during the NFL season would play USFL ball also, or would just sign with the USFL outright because they were paying better. Anyway, Doug Williams played for the Arizona Outlaws, and in a game against the Memphis Showboats I saw him complete a 30 yard pass, a perfectly thrown spiral chest high to the receiver.....laying on his back!!!! It was perhaps the most athletic play I've ever seen.

doug williams played in the old usfl which was an upstart league that tried to rival the NFL it featured such stars as williams, Jim kelly, Doug Flutie, hershall Walker and reggie white. after the league folded he ended up in the NFl with the tampa bay Buccaneers. Tampa was a perennial looser at the time. he left as a free agent and joined the Skins. The skins Starter that year was Jay Schroeder , he got hurt and entered Williams. he wasan older QB at that time, played two more years and retired. He was the head football coach at his alma matter grambling for a while and i now believe he is with the front office of Tampa bay
