Umm... I'm not certain you even want an answer. Also Africa is a continent not a country. For the most part they are 2nd and 3rd world countries fighting their own corrupt governments who won't allow most of the population to grow enough food for basic survival. Or they are dying from diseases like AIDS to which the US contributes the most money for aide and cure research for then any other country.
Now why the obsession with Sept 11th? Well it might have something to do with the fact we were attacked and innocent civilians were murdered by a terrorist group who has sworn to put an end to our way of life if our entire country doesn't convert to their twisted form of Islam.
You can play the Bush hate card as much as you like but radical Islam has been a problem for a very long time. Look at the first World Trade Center bombing and the US Cole. I've met radical Islamics (in college) and their hatred for anyone who isn't like them is very real. This was back in 1996 and even back then I knew we were in for some pain.

I'm Sorry, but you are an IDIOT! You are speaking about things that have NOTHING to do with each other! America is "obsessed" with 9/11 because it is the 5 year anniversary and SO MANY people were affected by this tragedy that it is real to at least ALMOST all of us!! No offense, but Africa is not quite as real to us, we as a people are not affected by it! What exactly do you propose that we do there? You have Africans running around dying of hunger because it is against their religion to eat COWS! There is food there, it is just a matter of willingness to eat your ancestor. Secondly, no we have not YET found Bin Laden, however we have dismantled the Taliban, freed most of Afghanistan, AND caught the supposed MASTERMIND behind the September 11 attacks! Third, Iraq DID have wmd's he told Clinton that, however, he's not a stupid man- HE GOT RID OF THEM! Fourth, You whine and complain when we go running into Iraq and you whine and complain when we DON'T go running into Iran. Is there any way to actually please you? YOU my friend are the Useless piece of trash! YOU are the "hide behind my computer bully" and THANK GOD you are not in charge of ANYTHING!!!!

I don't want to come off sounding harsh, but this isn't Africa. What is happening on that continent (Africa is a continent, not a country) is indeed horrid. There is no question that the world needs to do more to stamp out the human rights violations and tragedy that is a part of their daily lives.
But we (Americans) aren't supermen and women. We have hearts, we can be hurt and we can be killed. 9/11 was an attack on us. We have the right to mourn. We have the right to protect ourselves from it happening again. If we don't help ourselves, who will? Sorry, but 9/11 is a great excuse to be a little selfish.
BTW, I am no fan of GWB. I think he is a moron of the highest order. He has done a horrible job since 9/11, including throwing away all the world support we had right after the attacks. Our borders are still wide open (any one with any sense of military strategy will tell you to slam your borders shut at the first sign of war), security at our ports in non-existant...and in fact, the Shrub was/is trying to farm that out to countries that would do us harm.
9/11 needs to constantly be at the forefront of our thoughts until such a time when we can honestly say "we are safe."
G-d only knows when that time will come.

See there is a funny thing - one should take care of home before worrying about the others.
9/11 happened here - on OUR soil. That is something we need to take care of right away.
It is horrible what is happening over in Africa - and in other parts of the world. But to be honest, it is not up to this country to solve the problems for the rest of the world. We have enough of our own to solve. When we are problem free, then maybe we can tell other countries how to be and take care of their problems. I think the atrocities in Africa are the issue of the African Governments (and since when is Africa a contry? I was always taught it was a continent. Maybe I have a sub par education, since I am thinking that they need to address their own issues).
And to be honest, I am thinking that if you don't like this country, you can leave it or if you aren't from this country ("Bully"? "Plank"?), then don't use our internet sites for your entertainment. It is easy to not have anything to do with the US if you don't live here.

Several answers... some people love the drama (highschool really *does* prepare you for the real world, eh?) and it would seem their sole purpose in life is to milk this tragedy. You notice the commemorative 9/11 coins, ect? It's b.s. The people marketing it don't give a crap about 9/11 but rather the money they can bilk from the people who are *really* hurting. Which leads to another answer:
This affected all of us. However reaction it had, it did. New York is indeed the melting pot of the US, the port in which all of our ancestors came through at points in history. All of us know someone who knows someone who knows someone who died or almost did that day. And the fact that a hell of a lot more damage could have been done than was scared us sh*tless. It was a blow to our egos (strongest country in the world) and ourselves, losing so many people and getting attacked with our guard completely down.
People grieve in their own ways. No matter how much it seems to be run into the ground, just let them grieve. It's not your concern, even if you doubt their sincerity. You don't know what's in their hearts or how it affected them.
As Americans we seem to care more about ourselves. The richest country, and we give a hell of a lot less in charity outside the states than the rest of the world. And we're supposed to be the wealthiest. Not speaking for everyone, but it's pretty obvious how self-centered our country is as a whole. Charity begins at home, yet we don't seem to be doing much about that either (Three cheers for the Medicaid cutbacks!! Anyone? I didn't think so.) I don't care too much if I piss anyone off by these statements. Actually I don't care at all.
As for middle east, you'd be surprised how much good our soldiers are doing. My brother is going to be sent on his second tour in Iraq this winter, last time he was sent (among other things obviously) to oversee orphanages. He loved it, and the kids loved them.
And, yes, Bush is a shmuck. The man gives me the heebie-jeebies.
P.S. And who are you to compare one tragedy to another? I'm sure if someone you loved died on 9/11 because of the attacks you'd have a completely different perspective altogether now, wouldn't you?

You suggested unmanned combatants on your question. i think this may be a mistake. They as quickly as theory that there may be not greater dogfights too. What they tried to do became take out the gadget weapons.MISTAKE! they had to re arm the jets with weapons after all. whilst i don't have long adventure with the M-sixteen I did locate it cumbersome and confusing to wield.. greater i might quite have an improved around.unquestionably there became not something approximately it that I did like. you're appropriate with regard to the beef ingredient nevertheless. short tale right here. back while i became interior the Air rigidity we ordered ONE nut for an airplane. It had to be a "particular" nut too. Anodized and hardened and all that. It became ordered in quadruplicate varieties. a whilst later a forklift got here with a fifty 5 gallon metallic drum with a lead seal on the closure to point if it have been tampered with. The drum became crammed with those particular nuts.the kind has the two been crammed out incorrect or misread. there became some communicate approximately what to do. the save chief had to easily save all of them interior the save. The delivery guy reported that considering that we had in hassle-free terms ordered one, it quite is all we've been allowed to maintain. ok reported the govt and reported no rely via fact the the remainder of the drum might merely circulate back to the warehouse and we could order yet another one if we would have liked it. the motive force reported that wasn't going to ensue. He informed us that there became too plenty paper paintings in contact in re-stocking the now opened barrel. the completed barrel of those very costly airplane grade nuts have been to be dumped and offered to a recycler as scrap metallic for pennies. Outright stupidity! i became there and observed this with my own eyes. i understand we pick the terrific equippment to save our lives and take as lots of the enemies as accessible on the comparable time. I agree, when it comes to America (Im an American) if we are hurt it is a huge deal, but when millions are dying everyday in EVERY nation (but yes more in Africa and Asia), it is scuffed by the government, i have to wonder if in the back of their heads they are thinking 'ah we leave it to Bono and Angelina Jolie to fight that 'small' war, we will use the big guns"
That is one of the reasons Osama was provoked to do what he does (not that it is right), his father was a poor man. And it angered him that millions of muslims were starving and didnt have work. I do think America does sometimes have too much pride in the fact that we are wealthy compared to any other nation, even us who make minimum wage.

It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration.
There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!
He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"
Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."
The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"
"No, sir," continued Ollie.
"No? And why not?" the senator asked.
"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."
"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.
"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.
"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"
"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.
At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.
"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.
"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.
"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."
The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.
By the way, that senator was Al Gore!
Also: !
Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners."
However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands. The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.
Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified.
It was censored in the US from all later reports.
If you agree that the American public should be made aware of this fact, pass this on.

Because it hit close to home. Do you think the people in Darfur are obsessed with 9/11? They're probably more concerned with the problems that are hitting them close to home.

i agree with you.but when something is thrown so dramatically in your face all at one time it is very hard not to be affected by it its all so overwhelming , i know people have been getting murdered in all sorts of different countries forever and not a second look, but then this happens and it s what, civilized richer country perhaps? although i felt for 911 people -i have cried many times I have also said "what about the people America is killing everyday"," what about that 11year old, who just had his legs shot off or that mother whose been gunned down like a dog."
I'm one of the people who would not enter the world if i knew what it was going to be like...that's all i can say.
