Haha, that is a very good question...

I think it has something to do with our brains and how our mood is affected by something we see and hear. I like to compare it to the sound of smooth and relaxing music. What songs do you like and which you know have almost made you want to fall asleep? Why do babys fall asleep to nursery music? I think it might be the same concept. Music has been known to alter our moods, right? They say that listening to classical music while studying is something you help you study better, right? Well, just think of it that way. I think it is the auditory sound, and perhaps, maybe even the MOVEMENT of yawning makes others tired. Automatically the sound and sight of yawning is raced to our brian through the nerve cells, and since we like sleeping so much, I think that's why we try to mimick it!
