dehydration projectile vomiting diarrhea congestion fussiness gas clingy irritable fatigue but sleeps in short spurts-- took her to the dr. they said pedialyte 1/2oz every 1/2 hour unless she is sleeping and no food unless she is peeing and isn't vomiting and diarrhea lessens. Only food to give her are cracker, mashed potatoes, rice cereal with pedialyte mixed in it. She didn't even know what was the matter with her, there are plenty of babies/toddlers sick around this area with the same symptoms, does anyone have any ideas? Please helpful/insightful suggestions/comments only. Thank you all so much!

Oh hun, I am sorry to hear about your sick little one. It breaks my heart when kids are sick. I will tell you in my experience pedialyte made my kids sicker if I gave it to them too soon. I always gave my kids about a tablespoon of cool water at a time. If they kept that down for 15 minutes we had another. If they kept it down for one hour I started giving them two tablespoons of pedialyte every 15minutes to half hour. I would feed them nothing until they kept liquids down for at least 8 hours.

I also would put some books under their mattresses to elevate them. My kids would vomit because they gagged on mucus from being stuffy. My kids also loved going in a warm bath and having me use a plastic cup to drip water down their backs. It was soothing to them. While I had them in the tub, my hubby would clean up the mess in the room or the other way around.

Sorry your little one is so sick. I would suggest also that if she still doesn't feel well or symptoms get worse, call the Doctor back. Good luck, hope she feels well soon

NO FORMULA or milk until she has been diahhrea free for at least 24 hours. The list of food recommended above did not have formula in it. When the gut is irritated, milk makes it worse. Pedialyte is baby gatorade and gives her back the electrolytes she is losing. Most babies will not drink Pedialyte unless they are quite dehydrated- it is pretty salty. So they are usually craving salt by the time they will agree to it. So sometimes you have to get the liquids from somewhere else. Do not use apple juice unless you add a half ounce to 8 ounces of water- just enough to give a little flavor. Pear juice is also good. Your girl does not feel good, but as long as she is not out of it and listless I would not worry about her too much. Sounds like she picked up a bug or had some food poisoning. If you were using the same formula as always it is probably not allergies to her formula or she would have showed signs long enough. But...Never save bottles, never give a bottle that is more than an hour old, and never take bottles or cereals mixed with milk out with you. Use powdered milk and mix when ready. Never save half eaten jars of baby food (the spit in the backwash starts to break down the food in the jar and has multiple bacterias in it.)

This happened to my son the last time he got his shots 2mths ago.The doctor said it was just a virus. He was on the same diet for abbout 5 days until the diarrhea went away.It took him about 8 days to be over it.I would give it a week if she gets worse take her back.If it is a virus they go away on their own.Tylenol at bed time may help her sllep a little longer. My doctor suggested gatorade mixed w/water to keep him hydrated.I tryed that & pedialyte & found the gatorade worked better for him.It made him feel better for a little bit,the pedialyte did'nt.Hope she gets well soon!!Be patient i know how much sleep you r probably not getting & how frustrating it can be not to be able to make your child better.

This time of the year it could be allergies or a cold. Stick with what the doctor said and NO milk or Milk products for a few days even when she feels better. An upset tummy can make the milk go bad and cause her to get sick again. Keep up the good work.

The two big things here to watch is the dehyd, and temp... but its been so long since my children were that little.... and im the dad that was always deployed in the army with a stay at home mommy (lucky). If that were to keep up for more than a few days, or temp was high, I would go to another dr.

Sounds like the Rota-Virus. Very nasty stuff! Does her diarrhea smell really really bad? I mean lots worse than usual. If it does it's the Rota-Virus. Be very careful and wash your hands a lot! Also use lots of Lysol spray. It kills the virus. The virus is very contagious. Food right now doesn't matter very much. But keep her hydrated. Lots of kids end up in the hospital because of this virus.

Well I once tried to give my daughter Nestle Goodstart formula and the same thing happened to her. She got really sick and the doctors told me to not give her that brand anymore. She was usually in Similac since birth but tried Nestle because I had a free coupon. Maybe it's the formula and you should switch her.

Anytime my daughter's doctor suggested Pedialyte, it just made her poop and puke more! (I never could figure that out, so didn't use it and they've made it so far to the ripe old age of 8 and a half and 5.

The projectile vomiting, diarrhea, fussiness and gas sounds to me like she could be allergic to her formula (if she's on formula). I had to give my daughters "Nutramigen"....it's the most expensive formula out there, but the only one their stomachs could handle.

My daughter had alot of those same symptoms and it turned out to be her allergies causing it all(the post nasal drip caused the lack of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting). We took her to the e DR who recommended Pedia-care. Hope this helps. Good Luck and hope the little one i better soon.
