I also have a son who is 15 and has taken Riddlin since he was in 2nd grade. (7 yrs old) His doctor waits every year to see if he will demostrate a "need" for it before he will prescribe it. Also he ONLY takes it while he is in school. NOT on weekends, holidays or the summer. This is because Riddlin does have the potential to cause heart problems. However, if your child truely needs the med, then the need must outweigh the risk. (and it is a small one) Some people, never out grow add or adhd. I know some adults who still take Riddlin to maintain a normal adult life. However, saying that, there are other options to try as well. Other meds. Also caffine acts as a depresent to a hyperactive person. Just do some reading and see if there are any alternatives out there that may help as well as using meds. Behavior modification therapy may also work. It helps teach young people how to handle and deal with their issue..add or adhd...in a more productive manner. My best advice is to ask alot of questions...dont just take what you doctor says and leave it at that. Read..ask questions...try different things. Good luck..and if you ever need someone to talk with, I am here (smile)

I've seen it, and other ADHD drugs, do WONDERS for the kids. If it works, and you'll be able to tell almost immediately, it's great.....a little tiredness would be the main complaint and problem. If it doesn't work, try a few of the others. It can really make a big difference in the child's life and in everyone's life who has to be around the child.

Science teacher here, and I know from experience.

It depends on the dosage as well as the child's body size (thin, average, heavy) as well as height. There are a lot of factors to put into it. A psychiatrist is the best person to prescribe it as opposed to a general doctor as they know what dosage is appropriate.

My son took Ritalin when he was 14. They say it stunts your growth. He was 5'8 at 14, 5"11 at 16. He is now 6'3. I guess that growth stunting thing is a case by case basis.
