If they hate the Australian value system so much, why do they live here?
They should be grateful that they were allowed into the country & allowed to have all the good fortune that Australia can give a person.

We hear a lot of this sort of talk in Australia recently, and I would like to know just what these "Australian values" are? Meat pies, holden cars and kangaroos? The white people who invaded Australia didn't respect the values of the people living here, so it is futile to expect other new immigrants to do the same.

I support basic human rights and values, but Australia does not have any bill of rights, so how can anyone hope to get new immigrants to respect these? Maybe you should be asking for one, so that new arrivals have something tangible to embrace.

Maybe new arrivals should be asked to respect our constitution, and I think they are, but I doubt if one Australian in 100 has even read it, and there is nothing in it about Australian values, we were considered British back then.

I think this sort of talk is a veiled attack on people who dress differently and act differently to them, especially Muslims.

I support keeping out of Australia people who are terrorists and potential terrorists, but this kind of useless talk is not going to do it.

The Muslim principle of al-tekayya permits Muslims to lie to infidels and to swear false oaths to advance their religion. So the problem is not as simple to solve as some people seem to think.

That is the best question I have read for a long time. I cannot agree with you more. I live in America and deal with the same thing. You have illegal immigrants coming over to our country. They don't learn our language, they demand that we change our ways to better suite their culture, they will walk the streets with their flags hanging above our flag to symbolize their country being better than ours, and then they say how much they want to go back to their country but don't. It is infuriating. You know why they come to our countries though, because in their country they would be suffering due to their third world technology, and tyrannical government. They come to our countries that our culture has flourished and exploit us. So you are right, all of these immigrants need to realize that they are lucky. If I was to immigrate to another country I would take in their culture and adapt to their way of life out of respect to their culture. That's basically what it comes down to. They do not respect us and they will continue not to respect us because we don't do anything about the people that are disrespectful.

My best friend is from Australia (Kalang) and she is one of, if not the nicest human I have ever met. I have never had the money to visit her, but I would love to. She makes Australia sound so wonderful. She has visited me many times, and if her values are a sample of the rest of Australia, I don't see why anyone would have a problem there. Kick all the bad visitors out and send for me. I would love to visit!

When in rome do as the romans do. many people come for work opportunities but the should still have to live as australians do - if I went to an arabian country wouldn't I have to veil my face and cover up to respect them? Travellers can respect the rules of other country's and so can immigrants.

Couldn't agree more -- but the problem isn't confined to Australia. Certain groups immigrate to other countries and bring everything with them -- their values, their language, their costumes, their customs, and, unfortunately, their hates and prejudices as well. Makes you wonder why they ever left.

I agree with you, also I think that all people coming to live in our wonderful country should be able to speak english and not have houses and car given to them when they arrive.

I am a widow with two kids and can not get anything that I need, like somewhere affordable to live, or even a part time job.

If you don't like our values go home! Australia is the best place to be but it makes me mad when people don't appreciate it!
