Do I just put it out next to the trash can? or do I need to call someone to pick it up? does it cost extra? I dont have a truck to being it to the dump

This worked for a friend of mine, put it out with a sign saying $10.00 someone will buy it and it will be gone... if they want to haggle for $5, tell em $7.. LOL
my community has a web site called free cycle, and it helps keep a lot out of the dump... some people use parts for other things you might check and see if your community has one.

there are a couple of ways to handle this,, first if youre in an area where you can put it out by your driveway, someones sure to pick it up,, or you can recycle it take the tunbe out and make it a pet bed, shelves if its a big tv there are so many ideas,, or you could put it on ebay ,, i got rid of an old broken dresser and got 15 dollars for it

Most towns have a place to dump this type of stuff--also a good place to pick up parts, if you know what to look for (like computers and stuff)
Try calling your town, they may send someone by to pick it up or instruct you on how to dispose of it.
