the great depression began on october 29, 1929 with the crash of the stock market. it ended essentially with the start of WWII in 1941.
many will disagree on exactly when it ended, but that is the end economically as the war pulled us out of the depression.
we were headed into the depression for some time before the stock market crash, but that is considered to be the starting date.
