Look there are two types of SIGNALES at which TWO DITINCT networks are working!

One is Analog signals >>>>WHOLE telephone network is at it
Other is DIGITAL signals>>> Computer networks works at this

So when Voice chat is done computer to computer no variation of signales is needed i.e. Digital only!
So we just say simply voice chat!!!!

But when we have to Dail a phone number then it is to convert to digital signal , so we can use internet network to carry the signal from one part to another part of the world cheaply!

so after the destination is reached, again we have to convert the same signale to analog so receiver at the phone at other side can talk!

So ther term VOIP is used as we travel the voice data of our phone to Computer by using unique IP system on internet
