Well the war in Europe was great for the Americans. We wanted action, to help our good freinds the French and the British. So yeah we supplied them with guns and stuff, and the a Germany submarine knew we helped out the British, so they sank an American ship. The Lusitania. It had lots of peopel in it, and it got US angry. Second reason was British and French couldn't win the war on their own. Third reason was a telegram. The Zimmerman telegram was a telegram sent by the Germans to Mexico which told them to attack the United States and divert their attention. This wasn't a real big reason, but it was something that just added fuel to the fire and entry of WW1. We were going to go in anyway. Some say that the Zimmerman Telegram was sent by the british and intercepted by the British to tell america that Germany is a bad guy, and have us fight on the British side, A propaganda basically. But yeah, thats why the United states went into WW1

The loss of Life on the Lusitania was the excuse for going in on the side of the French and the English. For a while it was doubtful which side the USA would be on.
I lost six ancestors in that war, all of them in the Canadian army.
Roadkill, you are right. Some historians say that the WAR started in 1914 and didn't really end until 1945.

Because we were suckered into it. The British, French and Germans had fought to a stalemate. The French were ready to quit, and the British were almost bled dry. The Germans thought they could hang on long enough for favorable peace terms.'
The British pushed us into it and the Germans played into their hands by sinking a passenger ship "Lusitania" When American troops started arriving the Germans realised they could not hold on and signed an unfavorable peace deal. Which resulted in WWII.
