And Metallica may not be dead (they did a guest spot on "The Simpsons" last night), but they certainly jumped the shark when they went all ape s*** on this whole music downloading debacle. Haven't been able to give them much respect since.

if you're refering to the band, i think they're not dead. They're currently working on their new album with new producer Rick Rubin for next year.

Metallica is not a person it is a band. They are definitely not dead and recently released the album "St. Anger".

Metallica apparently passed away some time after releasing the "Black Album". The release of "Load", and their battle with Napster were only proof of demise. Clearly whatever rotting flesh remained of the band were merely puppets by that point, whose strings are still being pulled by an obsolete "music" industry to this day.
