Perhaps someone should right a book detailing the history of all the idiots who have predicted the end of the world, and it has not happened.
Worse than the predicters, are the people who get taken in by them. On many occasions people have given away all their possessions on some idiots say that the world is going to end.
And what is more amazing is that in many cases, the followers still keep their faith in the idiot, even after the thing doesn't happen, mainly because he (its always a "he") makes up some excuse, like "God changed his mind" or "God was just testing us".
Trouble is, you can't argue with that mentality.
Please don't get drawn into that kind of thing. Read all kinds of information, and think, think, think for yourself.
NB - You don't need a book. I just found:

This guy has chronicled a history of all the predictions of the end of the world. There are hundreds and hundreds of them. Astonishing. People are more nuts than I thought they were.
