One day u finally knew
what you had to do, ang began
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice-
though the ehole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But u didn't stop.
U knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations-
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars begin to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice,
which u slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
dtermined to do
the only thing u cud do-
determined to save
the only life u cud save. :)

That's by Mary Oliver. It's about that decisive moment when a young adult realizes that he/she must start making his/her own decisions rather than listening to all the well-meant advice others offer...that sometimes it's necessary to ignore all that advice, which is sometimes all wrong or simply not helpful. That's a moment that can feel lonely and threatening, but it's necessary to move through the loneliness and fear. On the other side of that frightening phase is the elation you feel when realizing that, yes, you can think for yourself.

although everyone keeps saying help me. the only one you can help is yourself by leaving the people who are trying to bring you down and put things in your path. working through is the only way you can help your self and see the 'stars'

It's a lovely poem. It would be a lot nicer if you took the time to spell out 'you' and 'could'...

If it's yours, you should enter it on poetry.com.
