I was laying on a couch, with my head against my wife's tummy, listening to our new baby's heartbeat. The channel was on CNN and they broke to a breaking news story. The first tower was on fire and they had some footage of just before the first plane hit, not much but they kept replaying it. Then, we watched as the 2nd plane came into the picture and struck the 2nd tower. We were silent and my wife started to cry. I did shortly thereafter. We momentarily forgot about our joy in our little one, caught up in the horror and pain of all those other families.

My daughter was born 2 weeks to the day later.

Today, despite the fact that we have tried to explain to her what happened, I thought she had no real understanding of what the twin towers were, but kids can surprise you. She showed she understood a little bit about why my wife and I and our older children cried while we observed a moment of silence before school today, standing there hand in hand around the kitchen table. When we were done, and getting ready to leave, she hugged me tight and asked "Daddy, how many other girl's don't have daddy's because of the planes?"

I will never forget that, and I will never forget where I was the day the towers fell.

i was 18 years old and working at a nursing home as a caregiver and i was checking on a resident when i heard her freaking out that a plane had crashed into the pentegon and i just thought she was out of it but then i walked into another room and saw the news. all day it was very quiet and all us caregivers hung out in one of the rooms and watched the news all day. it was a pretty sad day for all of us.
