theres no need to spend money on on antivirus when some of the best scanners are free.
get avg free from downloads.com. norton and mcafee suck because there are virii out there that are made specifically to circumvent them
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10543927.html?tag=lst-0-6
a 56k friendly scanner that is just as good: AVAST
http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10533644.html?tag=lst-3-2
*EDIT*
if you buy a computer because your old one is infected, you really need to spend your money on other things like..computer 101.
viruses dont cause catastrophic computer failure, just Operating system death. If your hardware needs to be replaced its not because you had a virus. its because you bought low quality equiptment.

depends on how you use your internet, if you are a medium to heavy user, then I don't want to continue but to say buy the software (just get Norton, it's not the greatest, but it's pretty cheap and works well). If you are a light internet user, then go download AVG, or the best solution is to buy Panta Titaium, it's only $10, and it's rated the top 5 antivirus.

Just based on the other responses, it seems clear that using a Windows based computer on the internet is a very bad idea. It's more trouble than it's worth. If you're tired of dealing with all of that hassle, and you're ready to get a new system anyway, make it a Mac. If you need to, you can install Windows on it, but odds are you'll find running OS X to be easier and more productive. No AV software required — unless you run Windows on it!

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

Neither. there is not any aspect going mac in case you've in no way used it and do not require it, and vaios, even as they replaced into wonderful, are literally basically overpriced crap. Oh, and any mac supporters who answer are probably gonna allow you to know that a mac can't get an endemic. Please do not hear to them. Any device can get an endemic, yet because surely 5% of people use a mac, surely 5% of viruses are made for them.

If I am broke and am building a machine for someone I usually use AVG. It is free and updatable. Check it out:
http://www.grisoft.com
Just go to that website and download the free version, once you have it installed you will be all good to go.
