WOULDN'T THAT BE KIND OF LIKE CHRISTMAS FOR BIN LADEN? I AM SURE HE'D CELEBRATE THAT DAY WITH YOU.

Well, it's spelled "HOLIDAY"... and once, holiday was a day to be kept HOLY... Now, as many of the other posts mention, many once holidays have become merely part of a three-day weekend. Nothing torques me greater than the Memorial Day "Weekend".

Fortunately, we've left Veterans' Day on Nov 11 (formerly Armistice Day) on the date of it's commemoration : the end of World War One.

But no, it should not become an excuse to close schools, businesses, or engage in commercialization... a moment of silence, some commemoration and rememberance. Similar to Holocaust Day in Israel.

It should be a full day of memorial, but it would make little sense for Americans to close down schools or businesses for the day. The day should be remembered as a national holiday.

A day of national remembrance? Yes. But a holiday? No

A holiday is something we celebrate. 9/11 was painful, scary and a day we should never forget.

I think making it a holiday will take away from that, and it will become just another day for people to sleep in and be lazy.

i don't think so, i think it'd be kind of rude to the people that lost someone on 9/11. i mean, there are already constant reminders about it. i was watching on cbs how children that lost a parent on 9/11, because of the terrorist attacks, were really upset about the fact that the media serves as a constant reminder about what happened.

i hope that makes sense? having days off is cool but not for something so tragic

NO, I don't think so. To me it would give whoever did it some glory.
There are three days in America that are as notable as that.
D-Day, Pearl Harbor and now 911

Those other days arn't days off.

I do think our country should never lose site of what happened on 911......but a holiday is just another excuse to go to the lake or whatever.

Not a holiday, you don't celebrate something horrible, you pay respect by remembering it. School does not close down because of December 7th. Today, 9/11 is called Patriot Day.

I get to get out of school? Of course then! No but seriously I don't think so, people really don't take the 9/11 thing seriously. Alot of people wouldn't do anything to remember the people who died so why give them a day off.

No. We have too many holidays. And I think by creating a holiday out of this will only empower the Muslims more. We can all lower our heads and pray and have memorials, thats fine. But a holiday would send the wrong message.
