I'm watching the Twins/Athletics game, and I saw the umpires were men. I started to wonder if women were allowed to umpire professional AL/NL baseball games. Is it possible? Or would there be too much backlash, do you think?

Yes, although none has made it to the Majors. Pam Postema was an umpire at the AAA level and she worked major league spring training games.
There is a female referee now in the NBA: Violet Palmer. No reason there couldn't be a women umpire in the MLB.

Women are allowed to become professional baseball umpires, some have and some may even be doing so now. None have made it to the major league yet. It would be difficult for a woman to work in the major leagues but not impossible.

I wouldn't want to see a woman umpire, but not for any sort of sexest reason. When you have crazy guys like Milton Bradley running around the field like they escaped from a mental institution, or fights between Michael Barrent and AJ Pierzynski, I wouldn't want a woman to have to deal with that. Guys are just more prone to irrational bouts of testosterone induced intensity, and I would be afraid for any woman who would have to bump chests with a big fat manager who charges onto the field to argue a call.

I remember there was one women ump. in the minors and I also remember a lot of men were putting her down because she made a call that went against their team,,It would be hard for a women to do that job,especially if it's just her on her own.

Do you like balls? (ahem, and strikes?). No, seriously, I have never seen one. But there are lots of female ball girls at the park. But they have yet to ump a game, play in an MLB game, or be a bat girl!

Yup - there are a couple in the minor leagues, but none currently in the majors.

anything is possible there is women basketball referees it just takes a woman dedicated and becomes a semi-pro team referee at a young age and she becomes very good at it

these days a woman can do any thing a man can except be a doner for a child, is soon as some woman figures out how to fix that. we men will be exstinked.......

not if you want a good game called!!!! So she is PMSing and some player looks like he ex and she is calling strike 3 feet out of the zone. i dont think so sweety sorry to dash your dreams!!

anything is possible they have a female referee in soccer so they can have one in baseball.
