shovel and pitch fork.... there is a special shovel made that pulls out nails as you go.... it has kinda like fine teeth to grab the and pull the nails

In order to remove the roofing nails as well as the shingles, they use a kind of rake that has little slots in the end of it. They scrape the shingles off, and the nails get caught in the slots, pulling them out as well, almost like a hammers nail pulling end.

pitch forks and shovels, it will put knicks in the shovel so use an old crappy one, wrap it with tape if you have tender hands and don't want blisters. After you will want to pull out the easy nails and bang in the hard ones. I have done it several times and this has been the fastest most efficient way thus far.
