What really makes a teenager depressed in her first year at high school? It has been a long time for me, and things were very different back "then". Any answers, please.

For me, it was adapting to all the different responsibilities. From the beginning, I heard about graduation requirements and college preferences, so instead of having my schedule handed to me, I had to make choices, some of which I've regretted. Teachers expected students to be on top of their own homework.

But then again, I was only academically minded. I did not worry about peer pressure at parties, choosing the right boyfriend, etc... But even then, responsibility and good choices is probably the hardest thing to conquer in a social setting.

i was a freshman last year and my biggest problem about getting depressed was just not getting excepted by people for who i was or what i stood for. and i would always compare myslef in a negitive way that all the upperclassman were smarter or they had more going for them than a stupid freshman. or get made fun of for something that i couldnt control, to take back of make better in that situation. its very hard to be a freshman because everyone is so damn critical now of everything. but ehat ive learned about being a freshman on the 1st year of highschool is that if you have natural confidence than you will go far in highschool with friends and popularity. but even as a sophmore thats still something i have to work on myself. because im not perfect like they want me to be. im an individual and thats what im known for in school and thats were i get the kick a.ss friends i have now.

I think acceptance in high school plays a key role in teen girls first year of high school.
It is such a big jump from elementary school, with a lot of adjustments. Alot of assignments, projects and group work determines the success of a teen girl.
Plus you sexuality kicks in and teen girls become more interested in boys. Alot of peer pressures and what group you fit into. Are you Jock, popular girl, nerdy girl or outcast?
I think most of the teen movies really embodies some of the issues a teen might have but in a comedic light.

I'm in 9th grade now, so its my first actual year at high school. It's so much easier than I thought. My friends are there for me and make things easier. My number one fear is giving in to peer pressure. I always said that I wouldn't, but who knows what'll happen in my future. I do hope to become a successful singer someday and I hope that high school will help me open up a little more.

Well, when I started highschool I realised that most of my friends were just a bunch of people who wanted me in a sexual manner, or (in the female case) constantly put me down. So, over time, I told them that I dodn't want anything to do with them anymore, because they depressed me. Bad friends. Now I have a few close friends and I'm really quite happy.

what my problem is is that teachers are all like, this is going to be your hardest class, bla bla bla.. and then they give you 20 tons of homework, and so i get stressed and ill be trying to do something, and my parents will come in the room and ask me a ton of questions, and i'll be really rude to them, and so now i'm getting to be REALLY crabby, and it's making me mad. wow. that's a long sentence.
otherwise, whitney t pretty much sums it up.
