On a house facing west or south, would having a storm door ruin the front or main door because of the sun?

Depending on the quality and glass configuration, a storm door can be an enhancing feature to a main entrance. Yes a storm can potentailly ruin a main door. Temperatures can reach well over 200 degrees. This problem can be lessened by painting your main door white, or at least a lighter color. As far as a previous answerer stated about wind, and screws pulling out, this is more of an installation and door quality problem. The only two things I`ve found that are hard on a storm are crum munchers and animals.

Not many a time that I would not want a storm door, I like the idea of full screen too. I would probably use a full glass door. Like a Forever door.

Facing west or south, a dark painted door would get very hot in that green house that a storm door would create. If the door is metal with plastic trim, the trim would probably shrivel up. Better in this instance no storm door would be better. Even a metal door with a foam interior will warp and a wood door would warp from the heat and probably check too.

I own alot of property and have removed most of the storm doors because of wind damage. Sooner or later the wind will grab that door and ruin it. It tears the screws out of the door frame it mounts on, both for the plunger and the spring holding the chain at the top of the door. You end up with a ruined main door frame. Good luck

A storm door will PROTECT the main door not ruin it. People choose storm doors for different reasons. Some just for looks, some for protection, some just for their screendoor qualities if one.

We like our storm doors and do not ever plan on NOT having them. The sun / wind / rain plays no role in our decision. I hope this helped you. : )
