What characters would you put in the JLA?

I never liked Batman being in the League. He's out of his league facing cosmic-scale threats. They've addressed this more recently, with Batman being the great analyst and strategist...but I don't buy it.
I can go either way w/ Superman. Certainly when facing White Martians, you need some power, but he tends to steal the show.
So:
Wonder Woman- A must. Strength, wisdom, and an aggressive attitude.
Martian Manhunter- Needs a bigger role. I've always liked Jonn, he needs to be more prominent.
Flash- Everyone needs a speedster.
Green Lantern- Able to compete on the cosmic level. Lots of versatility both offensively and defensively. Hal is my favorite, but any version will do (John, Kyle, even Guy)
Firestorm- Also able to compete on the cosmic level, very powerful and adds much to the personality of the league.
Hawkman and Hawkwoman. I like having the Aliens, and these guys have been long-term members, w/ interesting characters. Not too powerful, but forceful enough to take on a variety of foes.
I don't like breaking them apart. I realize Hawkwoman has been by herself, but it adds to the diversity by having a married couple.
and for the change up:
Mary Marvel- I've always been a big fan of the Marvel family. The JLA needs one more woman, and Mary brings much to the table. Strength, speed and wisdom, not overdone like Kryptonians, and all w/ a touch of femininty.
The Atom is worth considering, he's been a member often times. He's great as a spy, yet can mix it up in a brawl; a good character who needs a team to support.
Red Tornado follows him.

The perfect JLA would be the following:
Superman/Batman/Wonderwoman - required for a good justice league. holy trinity must not be broken.
Martian Manhunter - Not only a telepath and most powerful meta on earth but can also take the leadership by telepathically create plans and impletmenting them in the JLA's mind
Faith - appeared in JLA a few times. Powerful psychic but most powerful ability is to raise team moral and boost team cohesion. Its best described by Faith as a "fuzzy good feeling generator that makes everyone happy"
Firestorm - Strongest elemental out there, along with flight. Makes him a better pick than Metamorpho. While i would prefer Ronnie Raymond over Jason Rusch. Ronnie Raymond was also a physics scientist so he can also be the resident scientist.
Green Lantern - Hal Jordan. Every JLA requires a Green lantern. Why not have the most powerful weapon on the team as well. While i think Kyle Rayner might be stronger, Hal Jordan has hte heart of hte true hero. 5 tool master.
Flash - Wally west. Just for offensive purposes, he is possibly one of hte strongest in pure offe nsive powers. He can run through things and blow them up. You need a residential speedster. Someone who can be a pack up to superman at the hand to hand combat area.

I would actually read the JLA comics consistently if the following things were to happen to the "core" members of the League:
The most important thing for me would be one w/o Supes.
Don't get me wrong, the big boy is awesome, but his time would be better spent elsewhere.
Batman would take the leadership role.
Keep the GL, Martian, and (maybe) Wonder Woman.
Green Arrow is always a great addition if you ask me (with Black Canary, naturally, maybe outside the actual League though).
Maybe one of the less "team-work" people that haven't been JLA front-runners before, like Huntress, Azereal, or Question.
Possibly even a "young-un" like Nightwing, Superboy (very different from Superman) or (BIG stretch of the imagination here) Speedy (sorry, forgot what his most recent name is, and don't want to say the wrong thing).

Ah... a newly formed JLA? Here we go.
You Have the Trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. This is important simply because they are more then people, they are symbols and a JLA without them just doesn't get the "respect" it should. Next we have the "powerful" players. This includes Supergirl, Captain Marvel (A personal favorite), and Hawkman. Next are the psycics and magic users such as Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Dr. Fate and yes... Aquaman (a network of underwater informers is actually helpful.) Then i have the wild cards, people who bring a degree of unpredictability like Etrigan, Ion and Lobo (another personal favorite). And that is a JLA that villians will fear!

Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman, Flash ( yes even if that Flash is Bart Allen) Hal ( Green Lantern Jordan), Oracle, Martian Manhunter,Nightwing ( wouldnt that be cool Bruce and Dick on the same team?) and just for comic relief Plastic Man

Um... well the all holy DC trinity (Batman, Wonder Woman, And ugh... Superman), Martian Manhunter! Um... Black Canary, Green Arrow (Because you can't have one without the other), one of the Green Lanterns... the FLASH! (WHOO, I love the Flash!) and... Power Girl, maybe or... Hawkgirl and Hawkman... but, definately ZATANNA!!... and Atom.
