Sherlock Holmes was a fictional character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He was loosely based upon one of Doyle's medical professors, though.

No, but he was inspired by a real person by the name of Dr. Joseph Bell. He was a professor where Arthur Conan Doyle was studying to be a doctor.

yup,
he lived and died in London ,
He was just a lazy chain smoker, did nothing else.
Doel was his neighbor living in the next apartment .

When ever he looks to the other apartment , Holmes was there in balcony smoking his pipe .
This gave an Ignition to imagination and started his first story .

Doel became rich and moved to a better apartment ,
holmes stayed in the same place smoking his pipe till his death .
