I was in a meeting for work at another building (I work for the Army), when first one cell phone rang, then another, and another, until everyone got the same call...a plane crashed into one of the WTC towers. This was the first report when everyone still thought it was a small private plane. Then came the next round of cell phone rings with people telling us about the second tower. With that the meeting was adjourned and we all reported to our offices. On the drive back we heard that tower two had collapsed and when we got back on the installation the other tower was giving way. Next was the pentagon, which so many of us knew/know people that work there it was so painful. We watched the tv monitors in absolute horror and disbelief.
It was heartwrenching. And it was scary on base going into a full lock-down mode. Nothing has been the same since.

At work. After we heard about the 2nd plane, we were so in shock. Then we heard about the pentagon and when we heard there was still a plane in the air on the way to the white house, we thought we were at war and not sure what would happen next. Someone brought in a tv and everyone was glued to it. No one could say anything like all their feelings were stuck in their throat. Everyone tried to call relatives. I will never forget that and the assasination of the Kennedy's and Martin Luther King.

I was in the fourth grade. We came back form gym. We stepped into our classroom and saw the TV on. We saw a cold expression on the teacher's face. She said planes crashed into buildings. We saw a burning building then a plane crash into a second building. We saw people jumping out of building and they would show the person fall just before hitting the ground. We were probably more confused then alert. We sat and watch in amazement and awe at what was going on. We were real eased early from school that day. I asked my dad and he explained everything to me. I was worried that a plane may lady on my head at any minute. I remember we had an assembly the following year to honor those who died on 9-11.

I was at work, inputting numbers into a database - when the first plane hit, it was "Wow, this is some terrible accident" - when the second plane hit, work stopped - the entire office (30 people) crammed int the break room (seating for 7) and crowded around a 9-inch TV set with a coat-hanger for an antenna and watched the world change again . . .
you didn't ask, but I was in kindergarten "nap-time" when JFK was shot

I was at work, and our best friends were still in the air to make a connection at Laguardia(sp?). They were 10 min. away and got diverted. No one heard from them till 4:00 that afternoon. It was difficult to imagine what was going on, we didn't have a radio or TV at work, and depended on what customers were relaying to us. It wasn't until 5 pm that I truly realized what had happened. When I turned my TV on, I couldn't imagine what everyone went through who had seen it all day, be it in person or on TV.
