I've compared them all, done lots of research and have concluded that the Sandisk Sansa e260 (or any part of the e200 series) is the best. The e260 goes for around $150.00 is you buy it from Buy.com or Walmart, even CircuitCity. It comes in 2gb, 4gb, 6gb, and 8gb, which is currently the highest flash-based memory for an mp3 player. It has FM radio, FM recording, voice recording, photo capabilities, and video capabilities. It has an 1.8" screen, 0.3" bigger than an iPod nano. The video and photo viewing is great.
Looks (Design)
It looks like an Ipod nano, but it about twice as thick and a whole lot more durable. The front is black plastic, very resistant to scratches. The back is a Liquidmetal backing, which is like titanium or something. It is actually used for industrial purposes, that's how strong it is. It's not as mirror-shiny like a nano, but strong, and still shiny in an actualy metallic-silvery look, which I love. The backing is a first in mp3 players, if I'm not mistaken. The wheel used to select songs/scroll through menus is similar looking to the nano, but has raised bumbs that help you move it, because you actually have to move it. This makes it slightly harder to move than a nano, but the resistance is good so you won't have to spend too much time selecting one song. Btw, the wheel glows blue when used. The buttons that surround this are fairly easy to push, once again similar to the nano. Also an awesome thing is that you can buy an optional microSD memory card, that come in up to 2gb (about $100) that you can plug into the player to give you extra space. Btw, the charge time for the Sansa is about 2.75, 3 hours. But it plays for about 20 hours, twice as much as the nano.
Drawbacks (cons)
If you can really consider this a bad thing, then it takes 15 seconds to load from an off position. It doesn't bother me any, I'm not in any race. Also you can't use iTunes, which is a big fat "DUH"! You can use Rhapsody or Napster, though, which is actually cheaper in the long run, especial if you buy a good amount of songs like me.
Anyway, it's your decision, hope I was useful! :)

Good question. I'm not sure about pricing, but I got a creative zen vision m for $300 locally (it's about $250) online.. 30 gig.
Creative has some cheaper players, though. You might look into samsung, dell, and some of the more off-beat brands.

I just bought a 40GB Creative Zen Xtra on eBay for $80. Amazing product. But if you want video, photo, and all the latest bells and whistles the new Creative Zens have MORE than the iPod includinf FM radio, voice recorder etc.

Absolutely. There are many MP3 players such as Creative Labs that are equal or greater in features and memory that cost less. For more information, go to www.creative.com. They give you a lot more value for your money than Apple. However, they don't spend as much on advertising and marketing so you don't know them as well. Outside of the US, Creative Labs has the leading marketshare in almost every market. Solid product.
Hope That Helps,
Michael Harmon
